The LG Wing is, as it turns out, one of this OEM’s last ever high-end smartphones. It is also the only one around with an innovative “swivel-action” main display. It is currently on sale for 62% (or ~US$665) off its nornal price via Flipkart in India: clearly, the retailer has noticed LG has left the smartphone market.
LG has recently announced its plans to leave the smartphone industry, having floundered in this space for many years now. Then again, it has also asserted that it will try to deflect the fall-out from this decision from existing handsets and their users with an Android update schedule for its more popular and high-end models. Nevertheless, it seems one of them is indeed seeing the repercussions in at least 1 market.
Flipkart has listed the LG Wing at prices of INR 80,000 (~US$1064) at the most, commanding these sums due to the Snapdragon 765G phone’s innovative swivelling display, which flips into landscape mode even if its chassis is kept in a portrait orientation.
However, the Indian e-tail giant has just revised this maximal price down to INR 29,990 (~$399), in an 8GB RAM/128GB storage configuration. The same Wing SKU has also been discounted on Amazon.in, albeit to INR 59,990 (~$798); however, it is possible this sum will drop again before too long.
These discounts are presumably influenced by the probability the Wing will become completely obsolete soon. Its erstwhile OEM has promised support until the device sees Android 13; nevertheless, the phone still ships with Android 10 from both its newly reasonable vendors in India.
